Baking Healthy{ish} through the Holidays

I know, I know, I know, talking about staying healthy during the season of indulgence is not exactly what people want to be thinking about, but it will be a lot easier on your thighs as well as your digestive system to take a little care of yourself this time of year. Thankfully there are a TON of recipes that cater to this exact subject, and I am obsessed with a few of them. Yes, it is a lot cheaper, easier, and less time consuming to throw a package in a bowl, add some eggs and water, and throw it in the oven, but the benefits of taking the time to grab those wholesome ingredients now and again this month will only help you out, balance your blood sugar, fill you up, and actually take away some of that sweet tooth. Below I’ll post a few… okay a bunch of recipes that range from SUPER healthy to MODERATELY healthy, to a little better than what is in that box on the shelf…. okay anything homemade is going to be better than that box on the shelf because it excludes all the preservatives, chemicals (yes, I said chemicals!), and goodness knows what else is thrown in there to make it stay “shelf-ready”.

Another tip for not overindulging in holiday treats is to:

  1. Freeze your treats. This way you have to take the time to defrost a few. If you’re anything like me, you’ll forget about them and find them a few days later and eat them then.
  2. Make them bite size! That way you will (most likely) eat less overall. You can trick your mind into thinking, “wow I’ve had 4 of those?!” instead of, “WOW… I had 4 of those!” 

I hope that all of you try at least a few of these wonderful recipes, keep up on your exercise, no matter how hard it seems to throw in an exercise session, it will be well worth it. Try to hit 4-5 exercises a week during the holidays. That way if you get in at least 2-3 a week during this busy season, it will be much better than not getting any in at all.
